Did this thing just jump up $80 (25%) in price overnight or did I miss something? I've been lusting after one ever since I got my 70-200 and now that I am ready to pull the trigger this happens.

Is it likely to go back down anytime soon? This makes the price savings over the III not quite as convincing, maybe that was the point...

I assume you are looking at a 3rd party price from Amazon? Check with BHphoto and Adorama, I believe their price is still at $309

I have the mk I (I think). I never use it. I can't see a big difference between using it or just cropping the pic.

Adorama has it at 429, but B&H is still at 309 now that I look. Thought I checked them both before posting this but guess not. Thank you!

$429 is probably the MSRP.

According to canonpricewatch (external link), it looks like most stores revert to the MSRP price listing for something when they permanently go out of stock.

You can get a refurb one from B&H for $269 though, that's not bad...

I didn't see they had refurbs but went ahead and got a new one at 309. Adorama and B&H are normally right in sync price wise so I imagine their price will be going up too at some point too.
