Question about a lens - is it fair to say that the 17-40 is like a 17-55 on say a 60D? I am painfully fond of my 17-55 on my 60D,and the 24-105 is decent on my 5D,but would like to go wider(wider to allow me to be much to my subject and still get plenty in the shot). I dont consider the 17-40 to be UWA,just like the 17-55 is not a UWA on a crop body. Or perhaps the 16-35?

Any ideas?

The 17-40 will be plenty wide on Full frame ed! only 1mm longer than the 10mm on a crop! you'll enjoy it and it's a cheap L lens. I had one for a bit but found that I used the longer range much more and ended up selling it to fund my 24-70 2.8, because for my purposes 24 is plenty wide. 17-40 is excellent. Let us know what you decide. Hope you're still enjoying the 5DC.

Hey Ryan! Matter a fact yes, loving the 5D. I was reading another thread (somebody asked about Canon ressurecting the 5D sensor to a modern body). What I discovered, which was what I had been observing but couldnt quite put my finger on it,is that the 5D has a classic film quality about - nothing like my 60D. And I really like that! Im still learning my way around the 5D,but I really enjoy it.

I just learned that you can use it on a ff actually. Just remove the plastic baffle and don't go wider than 13mm or so. Look here:

and here in the same thread:

Here's a video of how to do it by Ben Jacobsen: http://www.benjacobsenphoto.com …-ef-s-to-ef-conversion-2/ (external link)

Levina,I appreciate your research efforts, but I was aware of the possibility of using ef-s lenses on FF bodies - my concern is "possibly damaging" my 5D. I will fish around for a 17-40 where there is zero risk of damage. To restrict myself away from the 13mm range of the 10-22 is possible, but not likely - I would surely forget about the clearence issue.
