Thanks Beardy! As for comparing the 5D MK I vs III, I can't say their "color" is different. I think the mkIII has some slight different metering, but white balance seems the same. I'm starting to work more with Nikons at work (the shooters there are Nikon folks). All things being equal with exposure, I think Nikons have a green/yellow cast in color balance vs Canon's red/purple). I gotta say I prefer Canon's defaults/ interface!

I recently upgraded from my first DSLR, the 5D. Had come from film SLRs, so the 5D was the first FF DSLR that was within my price range. Never really wanted the 5D mkII because it had the same AF system. Recently bought the 5D mk III and totally loving it! Really great AF and can see improved dynamic range. It seems the MK3 achieved a very complete update. I will be interested in some comparisons, as you were just asked. Of, course, an upgrade is just that....the 5D is happy to have the newer cousin/sibling....Joe

Yeah,after a lot of years with Nikon I prefer now a Canon,ergonomics,contr​ols and menu is much better for me.

Yeah, I'd say the mkIII is a worthwhile upgrade from the mkI. mkII was more just addition of movie recording. mkIII got a really nice top of the line AF system, and is very fast/responsive. I was expecting dynamic range to be about the same, but I've got to say it's got to be at least 1 EV greater. The other slight improvement has been the grips. The regular right side of the body on the mkIII seems a bit more comfortable in my hand. The vertical grip for the mkIII is much nicer then the grip for the mkI. The mkI's grip is pretty blocky and there's no indentation for the middle finger. The mkIII's grip is still missing the nice indentation for the thumb that the regular right side of the body has (wonder if Canon is saving that for the next upgrade!).

Here's an example of an extreme range shot I've taken with the mkIII...just one RAW. With the mkI, I'd expect the background to be almost all blown.

OK so yea, ML says they support 5dc but when I dl the zip and extract its contents to the root of my card and then do the upgrade, it says not compatible. I don't know where the problem is, but I think ML mis spoke when they said the 5d is compatible.

I can verify that it works. Same procedure. Place contents on root of your cf card, fresh battery....go to update....it will update...reboot.....hi​t trash icon....welcome to ML.

It does NOT tell you your shutter count, however, so for me it was a waste. A lot of other features though.

It is funny to play with some of the serious fanboys. Nikons and Canons are both good and capable cameras. It's more a preference in interface. I do prefer Canon's system of having the index finger's dial up from the shutter, and the thumb dial being towards the bottom of the body. Seems to let me have a steadier grip vs Nikon's dials both being on the top.

Dave, glad you got the upgrade...

It would be interesting to see two identical shots from the two bodies, with good Raw processing applied side-by-side!

Tony, unfortunately I didn't save a photo one of my coworkers took with my 5D (and I took a similar shot with my 5DmkIII). My professional work is animation and illustration, so I can go overboard with post! Having good exposure range and sharpness in the shot is important, but many times the photograph can be enhanced. From what I've seen, the overall colors are the same with both versions of the 5D. When I got the 5D, I was impressed at how the high ISO noise wasn't too bad (it looked more like grain). Of course the mkIII has more resolution, and a bit more usable ISO.

I for one am happy to see technology mover forward, and indeed it does, and I'm happy to see Canon bringing out high-quality/upraded "stuff", and indeed the 5D3 as well as the 1DX are true high-quality upgrades!

Funny, I picked up a 1D3 back in '07 after they had worked out some "bugs", and I spent a lot of time at events shooting through '08 with my 5DC and my 1D3, at the time both bodies were considered "top of the line"! What's funny was that I was always around not just Canon shooters but also Nikon shooters, and those guys would look quite enviously at both bodies!
