Is the 5Dc a viable purchase for jumping up to full frame? Or does it lag too far behind the current crops that I already have?

What are you looking for? Sure, the 5DC lags behind the newer technology. As far as digital tech, well, it is truly a "classic". We love it though because it "delivers"!!!

I have the same exact question (though I only have the 60D)

I think it really depends on what you are using it for and if you have to have newer bells and whistles like Wifi, super high ISO, etc. For a portrait camera or all rounder, I don't think any camera holds a candle to the image quality for the price. ISO 1600 is very usable. Colors are very natural and don't require much post process to look outstanding. I have used mine for wedding, portraits, travel and even motorsports. I love mine. I noticed a huge upgrade in image quality coming from the 7D to the 5Dc. I sold the 7D to buy another 5Dc. Hope that helps.

I love this camera, have sold and re bought one 2 times now as no other body has the same feel this thing does. If you don't need the reach of a crop, or a crazy auto focus system then this is the body to have in my opinion!

Im guessing by now you have a fair idea of what you are going to do,but for what its worth I have a thought abought your question.

As has been mentioned, the 5D does not have a load of bells and whistles. But what it DOES have is,in my opinion, excellent out-of-the-camera image quality. I was on the fence about getting the 5D MkII but changed my mind - the classics images just look better. It was mentioned about it being a very good portrait camera, and that is absolutely 100% right.

For excellent images straight from the camera that (might) need just a tad polishing in post, you cant go wrong with the 5D. I also have a 60D - it would go before ever considering selling the 5D. I had bought the 60D first, then picked up the 5D 2 years later for $300...so glad I made the purchase!

This, ofcourse,is just my humble opinion :-)

I used to think I was indecisive, but now I'm not too sure.

Thanks to everyone for responding. Basically I am not happy with the crop for portraits and candid shots, and I want something that will benefit from the wider lenses. I would like to pick up a 5Dc or even a 5D MKii and a 24-105 or possibly something even wider and keep the 60D for birding until I can afford a 7Dii if the review I watched today turns out to be true.

My 5D currently resides in the closet, but not because I don't think it's a good rig. The 6D outperforms it, but the 6D is also three times the price of a 5D.

If I was just moving into full frame, I would absolutely consider a 5D...

Just shut up and smile...

Sounds like you are a good candidate for a 5D. Awesome portrait camera and I love the combo with a 24-105. I use it about 50% of the time over my other 3 lenses. Awesome combo for travel and decently wide. Keeping the crop for distance stuff is also a good idea. I miss the reach of my 70-200 on crop (especially for motorsports stuff), but prefer the improved image quality. Good luck with your decision!

Here is a link to my post from my recent trip. All shots were 24-105 except the last which was the 70-200. https://photography-on-the.net …p=17207027&postcount=7977

Agreed! The 24-105 is fantastic travel lens, my post above was all with that lens!

Just so you know, wider lenses for portraits is a bad thing. Perspective distortion is not your friend.

I was referring to both portraits and the wider angle lenses such as my fisheye independently.
