Beautiful images! We're planning a trip to Hawaii for the end of May 2017. Is that a good time to go there? Any tips on which island to visit?

I'm going to jump in and recommend the Big Island, though I hear all the islands are beautiful. The benefit of the largest one is that it has several climate types within the island, and that it's somewhat less built up than the others.

Honestly, for me, any time is good to visit the islands, but during the summer it can be pretty hot. probably around 90 degrees.

Which island you want to visit depends on what you're interested in. I only have experience with Oahu and Maui. Both have a different style.
Oahu has a larger population living there, still plenty of outdoor activities and good food, but its more like living in say Los Angeles.
Maui is more laid back, plenty of stuff to do outdoors and in my opinion the beaches are better. Definitely less populated and lots of places close at 9PM.

Im personally thinking of visiting the big island my next trip. I may fly into Oahu and take an inter-island flight to the big island for a few days.

Love seeing this images, the 5D-C is still an excellent body in use. Images I'd shot back in '05 with current post are still amazing. My 5D-C is gone now and in the hands of another. :(

Yeah, when I was selling off gear, I sold my good 1DMkIII, but kept the trusty ol' 5DC and the 30D!

It's been a long winding road, hasn't it? :-)

Heh! Yeah, I try to smile, but sometimes I wish it wasn't so long, and the "winding" wasn't so drastic!

I now have two 5DC's. I found one in nearly perfect condition that was quite cheap and couldn't resist. The original 5DC I had was really banged up (sensor damage), but still works great as long as you work around it.

Some straight out of camera with the "new" one.

:)

I'd put it up at a local shop so that the students of the local community college could have a nice entry level rig for their photo classes. A check arrived in the mail about 14 days later. The store sales guy told me that there was a wedding photographer that was buying 5D-C bodies because he wanted spares. He didn't tell me who eventually bought it though...I was having pangs of regret but rationalized that the body and battery grip was in good use. I told myself that if it was there after 3 weeks I'd bring it back home.

The 5D-C was the transition from MF film into digital capture. That step from 35mm film into 645 film was eye opening. 645 to 35mm/12 MP digital was equally eye opening. MF digital now would be interesting but the drive to have one isn't there. The images being produced in the eye and hands of this thread I'm pleased to see the creative skills and vision isn't limited in anyway by gear. bw!
