What does this mean, how did I screw something up and how can I fix it? I'm taking a huge leap in my assumption that I somehow changed a gamma setting from 1.8 to 2.2 or vice versa. I don't even know what a gamma setting is but I recall horsing around with them at one point. Oops.

Thank you good people of POTN.

How on earth did you get a CR2 to have GrayGamma2.2 embedded?

Interested in the answer to that myself!

In your Raw preferences you have the option when opening a file to either convert the embedded colorspace to whatever colorspace you have set up in ACR (see the blue link below the image displayed on the ACR screen), or you can tell ACR to prompt you before it converts anything it loads that differs from the ACR default colorspace you have set. Your option is for the latter, it's asking before it converts.

Ah yes, and if you hit "convert to grayscale", Gray Gamma 2.2 is one of the options… Good point.

So, the OP needs to check his PS color settings (see the link in my previous post) or just choose "use embedded" (IMO).

Never underestimate the ability of a computer illiterate (sort of) person to screw things all up. :D

Thanks for the help. I'll have it squared away with the responses on .net.

My desktop is still totally screwed. The color settings are nothing like my laptop which has no problems. Some photos won't merge in NIK software. Some are still giving me profile issues as stated in the original post. I know I played with some settings at some point but have no idea why as I didn't have a clue what I was doing.

Laptop is bone stock and I've never modified or added anything. The desktop has NIK HDR EFEX PRO and Spyder 3 Elite if any of that matters.

The laptop color settings look like this. I'll add the desktop settings in a few minutes.
Edit-the laptop is on top, the desktop is on the bottom and I'm on my way to check myself in to an institution. Computers...sheesh!

Why different settings on laptop vs desktop?

In one you checked all three "mismatch/missing" boxes (which is good), on the other, you didn't. On one you choose sRGB as working space, on the other AdobeRGB. Makes little sense.

Have a read: http://www.getcolormanaged.com …nagement/pscolorsettings/ (external link)

Different settings are because I don't use the laptop much for photo work so I never fooled with it. The desktop I don't know. I found the color settings section and either followed directions from somewhere or just went to town clicking on things with no idea what I was doing or why. I honestly don't remember.

I shoot everything in aRGB per instructions from my professor. RAW is always the preferred method as well. I have absolutely no idea why things are goofy-it seems as though the desktop is set up 'appropriately' per the referenced blog and a Scott Kelby CS5 book that I have. I understand some settings may be changed for specific circumstances-I just want it to work. I don't print at home, everything gets sent out. I have no idea if that matters.

NIK won't open images that I have open in Photoshop. I have to hunt them down and add them manually. It never used to make me do that and neither do the comptuers at school. NIK support wasn't a tremendous help. They said their software is working fine and have a nice day.

I'll ask again in class tomorrow about my color settings and if I get no joy there I'll consider copying what the computers at school are set to and either mirror those or what I have on the laptop. I don't know what else to do.

The Nik issue has nothing to do with the color settings used (and I have no idea what causes that issue).

The "profile mismatch" popup is because you're using a different setting in ACR then your default working space in PS… Adjust the output space in ACR. (See post #5 and 6)

Except for changing profile mismatches to "convert to working color space" and unchecking "ask when opening," the NA PrePress settings are the ones that Kelby recommends. FWIW. :)

In that case, I disagree with Kelby, at least for my workflow :)
