If it is in the affected serial number range you can send it to canon and thw repair is free. Just Google to figure out the range.

That's pretty scarce info...you'd think the seller would know about the free recall if that was the issue (I think there are very few 1D3 owners who are unaware of this potential problem/the free fix)...run the SN and see if it qualifies, though :)

depends on wether the issue with the auto focus is "the" issue with the auto focus.
I'm picking the seller already has had it appraised and found the repair uneconomic - but then I'm getting cynical in my old age...

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:

I'm siding with you on this one...by and large, 1D3 owners are not n00bs to photography or equipment...I can see a lower-end camera being a crazy deal because of a simple repair, but I'm having a harder time seeing that with a 1D series. I'm not saying it's impossible, but I think odds are the seller knows what's wrong with it and knows it's more worth it for him to get what he can for it as it is, than to have it fixed and then try to sell it.
