Trying to install Magic Latern on my 50D. Got everything, following directions except for removing my battery grip (I can't find my original battery door--it's been 3 years.). I know it says to remove battery grip (if installed) but I can't get the camera to fire up sans battery grip (I'm guessing there's a micro switch the door closes.).

Anywho, when trying to do the update (with ML software on card), tells me it's updating, then screen goes blank and will not come back. Have to remove batteries to get screen to turn back on.

Anyone know if it's possible to install with battery grip in place, or, anyone know if there's a way to fake a battery door to close the switch (assuming there is one)?

Thanks.

You can install with the battery grip, but you need to upgrade or downgrade to 1.0.8.

Ah, just, "upgraded to 1.0.9." Gotta go find 1.0.8 and downgrade.

Thanks.

Thanks for the tip. Was able to install ML after downgrading to 1.0.8.

Now, problem is, how, exactly, do I use the additional ML features? I can find lots of info on what I can do with it installed but I can't find anything which explains how to actually access/use these functions. :::scratching head:::

On my 60D the ML features are accessed when pressing the delete button. I imagine it should be the same for 50D.

Thanks. I had seen that thread and read through it before trying this. Unfortunately, the, "User Guide," isn't really a user guide. It's more like a FAQ with a little more info on it.

Can't figure out how to access the features... Ugh.

Unfortunately, not on the 50D. Just tried it. :(

Thanks though.

Ok, I take that back. If I press the FUNC button, it brings up the ML menu. Now trying to figure out how to shoot video.

Theres a guy on that thread (A1EX) who is one of the developers of the ML software so he can answer any questions you have.

Actually, he one of the developers of the XTI hack as well. Often wondered why he shows up in that thraed but never on this one. Oh well.....

I've been reading more (and posting in the other thread). The user guide is better than I'd think it would be for a, "free," piece of software as extensive as this. Unfortunately, it doesn't really do a great job of explaining things.

My challenge now is figuring out how to get the camera to set the exposure/focus automatically while recording video. The software isn't very intuitive but it has some really cool things in it. Just have to learn my way around it.

I just recently installed ML to my T2i heres the video from MEdiaUnlocked doing a walk through on each settings but it seems like the one installed in my T2i is much cleaner meaning less than what the guy in the video has. Lots of useful info in this video.

Enjoy. Hope this helps.

Go into ML. There is a setting for the menu (Easy/Advanced). You may have Easy selected as I believe that's the default. If you select Advanced, you should see a lot more available.
