Met up with Patrick (patrickf117) to shoot this event @ Huntington Beach... Lots of good action on-and-off the sand... The swells/waves were good and the weather was perfect, too... Surfers, photographers, and lots of spectators joined in on the fun... A great morning, overall... More captures to come...

Beautiful work, the clarity and detail is so good it looks like you were in the water with them. I had issues with shadows on their faces with the back lighting but I shot Jpeg and had little flexibility in PP to fix, did you use PP to work out the shadows?

Maybe next event we will run into each other.

Eric

^ Hey Eric... Thanks for the comments... Shadows weren't too bad, as the white water gave some reflection to their faces... I did add a little bit of fill-light in post production to bring out some shadows for exposure balance, but not too much... And I would highly suggest shooting RAW, if you can...

In any event, we should meet up next time... I know a few of us were there on Saturday... I did take several images of fellow photographers shooting that morning... Where were you shooting at? Beach level or at the pier?

:D

On the pier by the lifeguard tower on Saturday. I was next to a guy using a video camera on a tripod and he had a Canon 100-400mm lens attached to it.

Yes I need to give RAW a try, just have not embraced it yet as I need to learn how to PP images with the Canon software as I don't have Lightoom or Adobe.

excellent shots! I had to use a little bit of dodge to clean up some of the faces. I think it had more to do with the reach of the 70-200 from the beach and the t2i vs my settings. Those look excellent. I have to do almost a 100% crop to get that close. lol. Damn I need a extender or longer lens or better camera or you know, tons more skills. Mine were not that sharp overall at all.

Ill make sure and not be skittish next time and come over and say howdy.
