8mm aspherical lens ?

The 8mm aspherical lens is sold under several different brand names e.g. Rokinon / Samyang / Vivitar etc. Now I understand that Opteka is selling a version II which has a removable lens hood (most, if not all others have fixed petals) which was created for those that have FF cameras. The Opteka is shown as a 6.5mm lens.

Does anyone know if the Opteka V2 is actually wider than the other lens? It is doubtful that someone owns both the new Opteka and one of the other 8mm lens but thought I would ask for any recommendations. The Opteka is also about $50 cheaper than the other brands, so I was being drawn in that direction.

Also, there is a Peleng 8mm with a focus confirmation chip I found on Ebay (maybe sold elsewhere as well), does anyone have any info on this lens?

I have a 60D & 10-22 but have seen the photos taken with these 8mms and like the look of them on a crop body. I think it will be a fun lens and looking to purchase one, just not sure which one.
Any help would be appreciated.

The guys in this treadshould be able to aid you in the decision. I am sure they all deliberated over 'which' version to get as well, so they can tell why they choose that one. I usually read Amazon reviews as well.

Very old thread, but since I am here.....except for the Pelong mentioned, all the 8mm are the same, as is the Optek 6.5mm (exact same lens as 8mm's). All made in S Korea by Samyang with identical design. Old versions had built in hood, which many would cut off to use on FF. New version is marked HD on many and Ads say it is new optics. Samyang website says old and new are same Optics, no change. I found Optek for $20-30 less than Samyang/Rokinon on that major website so many books are sold on...so just ordered the New Version Optek for $210. I read one review saying new version had Electrical contacts, but I am certain it was in context of a Nikon version with Focus Confirmation at additional cost, not a Canon EF mount. Canon is all manual. No Electrical Contacts is confirmed!

UPDATE FYI: (Also posted in 1 other thread) Everything I read up until buying, said all these were made in S. Korea. Samyang makes such a statement as well. My Opteka just arrived yesterday and the box reads Made in China. Somewhere (Facebook?) I found Opteka stated that they are now making there own Lenses, no longer relying on a 3rd party to do so. So, this is the one exception. I expect it to perform just as well as the others, as they are identical and I expect Opteka to license the total technical ability of Samyang.

Quality of appearance is excellent, fine finish and feel to the iris and focus rings. Even the packaging was impressively sturdy. The plastic tray the lens fits in is very thick/sturdy. The pouch is high quality too. It seems to deserve its reputation for a "Solid Feel". I hope to shoot with it tonight for the first time. (Played with it in the living room - quite impressive!).

Image taken with Rokinon 8mm with 1DMkIII, f/5.6, 15 seconds, ISO 100, model with removable hood.
Next time I'll shot at f/8 or f/11, and boost the ISO and/or lengthen the exposure; lens is significantly sharper stopped down.
Not the easiest lens to use at night, especially when it's cold!
