According to Canon USA, DPP 3.11.4 is the latest release. It's kind of confusing as some of the talk in this thread seems to be referring to a latter version that's out there somewhere.

Yeah, the new version hasn't been publicly released yet, although there are some "unofficial" links to it.

Look at the version you have -- if it was the new version it would have an HDR feature, a "multiple exposure" feature and a Digital Lens Optimizer feature (DLO), all new features in the 5D3 that will also be part of the new DPP.

If you're curious you can download a manual for the new version by going to the 5D3 section and the Brochures and Manuals section. It's just designated DPP version 3.11, but it's dated 3/16 and has the new features.

For all the effort/ resources and time that DLO takes to make the image, and the increase in file size, it would seem to me that processing the image in LR or PS would result in a fairly similar image.
I have had images that are fairly soft and processed them to be sharper, etc... the results look very much like what I saw on the FM forum.

just a few of my thoughts...

Interesting, Pierre, DLO works on the corners/peripheries but you are saying that you see just as good results in LR in those areas?

Of course we talk about DPP here because it is the freely provided software and that matters:)!

Canon Japan Announces DPP Update Planned for mid-April
Thursday, April 05, 2012
Canon Japan has announced that an update to their Digital Photo Pro (DPP) software is planned for mid-April. This update will resolve the soft/blurred Canon EOS 5D Mark III DSLR RAW image problem.

Here is my translation of the Google Japanese-to-English translation of this announcement:

To customers using Digital Photo Professional version 3.11.10 with the Canon EOS 5D Mark III Digital SLR camera

April 5, 2012

We thank you very much for your patronage of Canon products.

It has been confirmed that the RAW development process used by Digital Photo Professional version 3.11.10 is not appropriate, generating somewhat blurred images. This is the version of DPP that is included on the CD in the Canon EOS 5D Mark III Digital SLR box.

<Canon deeply apologizes>

Phenomenon

When Canon EOS 5D Mark III RAW images are processed by DPP version 3.11.10, generated images become somewhat blurred.

Affected Products

Canon Digital Photo Professional RAW Development Software version 3.11.10 included in the Canon EOS 5D Mark III box.

This problem will not be observed in other cameras.

<Actually, the Canon PowerShot G1 X is also affected.>

An update to the Digital Photo Pro software is expected to be published in mid-April.

+1. I'm looking forward to the update. I don't have a 5DIII yet, but since DPP is my primary RAW converter, I'm glad Canon is acknowledging their error with a timely fix. Thanks, Canon!

By the way, does anyone have any comments on using the DPP HDR? I've tried it on a couple sets -- on one it evidently didn't have sufficient detail.

On the other, I'd say it didn't get a good balance on getting in the highlights from the underexposed image -- it got more of the bright highlights from the overexposed image.

I'll say, though, that I haven't read into things, this was just a quick stab I took yesterday and haven't been able to study things.

Anyway, any comments/tips for HDR using non-5D3 images?

Anyone have any more good new DLO examples? Would love to see some posts from the 24-105, 17-40, etc, on full frame
