So I am very limited in budget right now and came across this on ebay. This just happens to sneak under my budget and I wanted opinions on whether or not this could be classified as a good deal.

Thanks in advance.

Mediocre deal at best. Look at your local craigslist or KEH, or Adorama to see if you can find it used. You should be able to find at $250 or even less. It was packaged with the XXD line as a kit lens so there are lots of them out there.

Thanks for the quick response. I am in a smaller city in Northern Canada so my local Craigslist is extremely slim pickings. I will look online at Adorama and KEH but it is my understanding that agreements with Canon and Nikon prevent them from shipping new items outside the USA.

I have had good results shopping at Henry's, (Canadian). Lots of used as well as new gear. They don't have a 28-135mm used at this time.

I would recommend looking on ebay (periodically) for the EF-S 55-250mm: I've seen them go for $140 on ebay.

That lens is $350 (refurbished) from Canon Direct...so that wouldn't be a bad price if you can get it for that.

What sort of usage are you looking to get out of a new lens?

I am looking for a lens thats in the middle of what I currently have.

I have a Canon 50mm 1.8 and Sigma DG 70-300mm 4-5.6. It would be used with a 5dmk2.

Thanks but I have a 5dmk2 so it needs to be EF mount.

if you feel like spending the extra $50 or so for the warranty it's not bad...they go used for fairly cheap...

fyi next time if you wonder if it's a good deal, just post a description...if this was a crazy deal your link might've caused everyone to buy it and you miss out :)

Henry's is a ripoff... you can almost always find a better deal at Vistek, Merkle, and Aden, and even better deals buying from the States (B&H and Adorama).

When you're shopping around, check out photoprice.ca . http://www.photoprice.ca …3.5-5.6-IS-USM-price.html (external link)

Seems you can get a used one from Adorama including shipping/taxes for the same price as the eBay listing before shipping/taxes. And you could probably find an even better deal if you look around the For Sale forum here.

Look on the for sale forum here. The only possible issue you might have buying in the US and having it shipped is the warranty on a new lens. Otherwise you are good to go, especially on a used lens.

I bought mine on the used forum here for $235 in great condition. I've seen a couple come up over the last couple weeks, search for it in the For Sale forum.

Thanks for all your responses. I searched in the For Sale forum here and the latest thread to have one was August 2011.

@Brandon72. Thanks for that photoprice.ca link.

Try searching differently then. They come up for sale all the time. I saw one last week for $200. The only thing is whether or not they will ship to Canada.

Thanks. Just worded it differently. Got a few Pm''s out. Hopefully someone will be willing to ship to Canada. Would rather give my money to a fellow member instead of a store.
