I've babied my 5dmarkii and this lens since I've had it and last night it took a little spill off a tripod into the dirt, very minor cosmetic damage to the hood, it seemed to fall forward onto the mark ii's back more then anything. My lcd screen has two nasty looking scratches in it now but what is concerning me is the lens.

The hood obviously saved it from major damage, nothing is wrong with it cosmeticly, the filter, glass, everything is perfect, but as I sat there back in the house checking i noticed something I never heard before. When turning the zoom ring slowly and listening I can hear a clicking noise right after 35mm, soemtimes it wont do it until 50mm but its consistent, does it everytime. Now I dont know if this is something new because it took a fall, or if its always been there and I never bothered to go into the dead of night in a silent room and listen to the damn thing as I turned the zoom ring.

Should I send this in for repair? Anyone have this problem?

I think you're looking for issues. If it functions properly than continue to use it. IF and when it does actually not work, consider sending it in.

....the best camera is the one you have on you at the time.

I'd let it be unless you notice a change in your results when you use it.

Probably this.

Lenses can make little noises and we normally filter them out, until it takes a knock and then we hear everything and think "is that normal?". It's just natural to start looking, and listening, for any signs of damage so we suddenly hear things that we just ignored before.

You say it landed on the back of the camera, so it is unlikely the lens made direct contact with any force, it probably just got shook up a little. The positive side is that the filter wasn't broken. They break really easily, far more so than a lens generally, so if the filter survived unhurt it is likely the lens did too.

It is possible that it got a little bit of dirt inside the ring, but that shouldn't be a big problem as it should work it's way out again.

I would just keep using it and see what happens, if it gives trouble or seems to be getting worse, then send it in for a checkup.

The LCD screen is very easily and cheaply replaced.

How would I go about doing this? I saw tutorials on youtube, but is there anywhere to order the lcd screen?

It's not really the LCD screen that is easily replaced. It's the clear protective window that protects the LCD screen that's available as an inexpensive and fairly easy part to replace.
