for me when I went to shop for my first DSLR I felt like canon had the best button layout on the body. Since I was looking for a camera to give me better control over taking a photograph, canon felt like it was simple and logical to change settings on the fly. Nikon didn't feel right in my hand and some buttons weren't even there.

I went with Canon because my best friend was a Canon guy and we could share lens. He told me to take a look at a sports magazine and count how many White lens do I saw versus black lens. At that time I didn't know what that meant then he told me... so I went with Canon. 13 years later we still share lenses... however, we both have the 70-200MII and the 400F2.8L those two we don't share with anyone!

As soon as I saw that red ring on the L lenses, I knew I needed to be that guy. Standing all suave and sophisticated with that hard edge glare. I was hooked. Sadly not one of those L lenses has ever got me laid like I thought it would. Neither have the white ones. Maybe I should try Nikon. Once the women see that red rubber on the grip, they'll be mine!

Do you shoot jpg professionally?

Not anymore - thus my love for DPP :). But I did for about 3-4 years. Made me really good at nailing exposures, but my color was pretty terrible.

You've got it all wrong, mate. What you've got to do is pick either Canon or Nikon, the brand is irrelevant, but then GET RID OF THAT DAMNED MANUFACTURER'S CAMERA STRAP and buy something really cool that screams I AM DIFFERENT! There are a whole heap of connoisseurs straps out there in many colours and textures...essential stuff!

You won't be able to hold the chicks off, I promise you!

Reminds me of another Canon advantage: DPP comes free with every Canon DSLR!. You have to pay extra for Nikon's RAW processor, whatever it's called.

I like the ergonomic control of the canon bodies. That's the main reason.
Then white lens look sexy!

I started with a Nikon D50 because the Rebels were too small in my hands. When I was looking to upgrade the D80 had just come out and for close to the same price I could get the 30D. I held both and was in love the feel of Canon xxD bodies. So I saved up, and when I was finally in port long enough, I'm a submariner, the 40D nearing the end of it's run. So I picked up a 40D for a steal. I now have a 50D.

I have no problems with either company, but one of the reasons it took me so long to upgrade was checking out the lens line ups from each company. I preferred what Canon had to offer.

I'll second that. It's not the camera or lens, it's the strap. But don't go for the Lowepro harness, it just makes you look desparate.

I am desperate. Years of walking into bars and clubs with the 5D and the 70-200 and nothing to show for it and all I had to do was get a different strap?
