hello everyone! My dad called me yesterday to tell me he ordered from B&H a D700, was $900 less then the 800, and it was even on backorder which I thought was funny. he has never bought a digital camera before. He has a hassi, and film nikon's. he was a combat photographer in vietnam, and has been a photographer his entire life (before college even, he went to college for architecture but dropped out after deciding to go full on with photography) so he worked at an army base as a civilian the last I think 20 or so year and they had a D300 and other various digital camera but he never bought one for himself. I'm excited for him, he was going to get a 300 and I was like no way man you gotta go FF and in another year you won't be able to get a Nikon Full frame for as cheap as it is right now so i think he made a good choice! I of course love my Canon, but he has an entire system of nikon's and has used them all his life. I hope he is happier now he has a camera he wants to use again!
The D700 is a fantastic camera and it sounds like he got a good deal...and old A-iS and film AF-D lenses work great with the 12MP resolution of the D700, IMO. The D800 would not have been as forgiving on the old glass. Also, the D700 VF is MUCH larger than the D300, so its easier to MF the older lenses.

Pretty sure calibration is unnecessary.
:p
