I have the G6, and my family and i were going to go to this one place called Longwood Gardens this upcoming weekend to see their Christmas garden presentation. It's where they light up most of their gardens in lights, it's very beautiful. Anyway, since this is the first winter that i have my G6, i would like to take some shots of the lighted foliage. What would be some good seetings to use? I would like to stay away from using a tripod if possible since the amount of ppl bound to be there, but i can use it if i have to. Any suggestions? Thanks!

higher ISO... but that gives you alot of noise, or adjust your exposure. I've tried alot of different techniques with the G6 shootin in low light condition.. and I just ended up bitin the bullet and use a tripod even tho it's a pain...or else, you'll end up going home and trashin alot of your photos. Unless you can find something to lean your camera on to keep it very still for a couple of secs. with the G6, I rarely go pass 100 ISO... cus they end up almost useless.

mknabster -- Longwood Gardens has restrictions on tripod use, for the very reason you cite: interference with other people strolling the grounds. Monopods, however, are OK. Please check out their website, and especially this page regarding photography and tripod use: http://www.longwoodgardens.org/Policy/Tripods.htm (external link)

Have a great visit; there's still lots to shoot, even though it will take a steady hand for the holiday illuminations.

Get a small mini-pod, like the Giottos "Ball-Pod" and use it to set your camera on a rail, trash can, fence post, etc. Or you can use it to steady your camera on a wall or lamp post. I've never had anyone object, since you're out of the way of other people and you're moving quickly anyway.

Put your camera in AV mode at f4, manual focus on your main subject (guessing the distance is good enough). Start at 1/2 sec. and experiment from there.
