Hi all I am trying to but something on uk astronomy buy ans sell, but before i can contact seller i have to answer a question which is "what is this called??? I know it might be simple to you guys but please don't laugh to loud as i am a complete newby

The assembly is called a "focuser". That one is for a Newtonian telescope where you look into the side of the telescope. The base is curved to match the curve of the telescope tube.
Being more specific, the focuser type is "rack and pinion" which is the cheaper design than a Crayford focuser. It's also a 2" focuser and has an adapter down to 1.25" so you can use 2" or 1.25" eyepieces.
Short answer = focuser. Long answer = Two inch rack and pinion focuser for an x" Newtonian with 125" adapter.
