I would use the 1D4 and 5D3. I ALWAYS prefer 2 bodies to one.

1DIV & 5DIII is a combo that I hadn't thought about, that would be killer!!

So here is a little different question for you all. I have a 1dv mkiv and want to go back to full frame. To date I haven't used every feature that the 1d has, but I really like the size and feel of the 1 series. I am on the fence about just buying the 5d to complement the mkiv. I shoot a few things, landscape, (starting to get into portraiture), wildlife. So I could benifit from both a 1.0 sensor and the 1.3 for extra reach. The highest ISO I have really used is 6400 which I like how well it cleaned up in post, so I don't think I really need 50 or 100k ISO that maybe cleaner in the 1DX compared to the mkiv. I am happy with the mkiv AF especially coming from the 5d mkii so if it is better than that is a plus. I like some of the specs on paper for the 1dx that the 5d doesn't have, but probably don't need them.

What would you do in this situation?

Off topic I just picked up a 300 is l 2.8 mki, I have a 1.4 extender and I saw some examples with the 2.0 mkiii and they looked really good. Any thoughts on that combination since I know it was optimized for the mkii and not mki for AF speed. I tried searching but wasn't really coming up with much.

Thanks

Richard

What benefits are you looking to get with full frame? I think if you can answer that, it might make it easier to determine what the best solution is.

Me Too

But im really thinking that with what we have(MKIV,MKIII,5D2) im good. Actually thinking about getting a used 5D2 so we can both have a full frame with us plus the 1d's. We used to have 4 bodies and it was really nice to have the lens attached and just grab a body for what you need.

The 5d3 is going to be nice no doubt, But i think the money can be better spent with what we have for now. I really like These 1D's and both have low counts so im pretty sure thats the way im going to go.

I would not exchange my 1D MKIV for a 5D MKIII.There is a thread comparing both cameras and the 1D MKIV was still better.

If I got the 5d I would keep the mkiv. The only time I would think about selling it would be if I got the 1dx and the mkiv started collecting dust.

I am actually starting to think about passing on the 1dx since it doesn't look like it is coming for another 2 months. Just not sure yet. I think I would use the 5d for portrait, landscape and the mkiv for birding, wildlife and sports. We will see, at this point I am still waiting.

Going from the 5d mkii to 1d mkiv was huge, but I wonder if the comparison of the 5d mkiii to 1dx is as drastic or overkill. Hmmmmm

A face the exact same dilemma, if one can graciously call the ability to own both a $5k and $3k camera a dilemma. Probably one many would like to confront.

I've always preferred the 1 series bodies. I currently have the 1DIV. Yes, I want the 1Dx, but I don't think I want to carry around two 1 series bodies. That'd be kinda heavy.

The absolute "perfect world" solution would be the 1Dx and the 5DIII.

I'm waiting on Nicksan's findings on his new 5DIII before buying one myself.

Isn't it supposed to hit the market at this month end?

I sold my 1div after I got the 5d3 and picked up a 7d for reach.....it's a combo that will probably give me the same results as the other combo because I won't be using the 7d in low light just like the 1div. 7d has questionable iso abilities and the 1div couldn't focus in low light.....so same results for me, more money in the bank, who are we kidding, more lenses......

There was a video of a canon release in asia where they said it was the end of may. Maybe us market will be different, but I doubt it.

Look, POTN needs someone to post a proper review of the 1DX. Why not you?
Get the 1DX

If not for the reason that I stated, get the 5D III to complement your 1D IV. Best choice as I see it.
