where do you see metal. AFAIK they don't use metal.

4. You can't tell with the rest but I'd imagine the home team knows not to rock metal spikes on turf.

Does the ball take different hops off the turf since there is rubber padding underneath?

I haven't noticed the ball reacting funny. I'm sure like any surface though, you've got to get used to how it plays.

Well of course, the beauty of turf is how consistent it generally is. I meant moreso in the lines of being more "reactive" than a dirt or grass field. Pretty weird things I am mentioning but this really interests me since more fields are going the turf route and you have firsthand experience with it.

I used to love playing on turf fields. Depending on the fields, some allow you to wear metal spikes and others ban them. As for the ball reacting differently, the ball definitely comes at you faster, but like stated, since it is so consistent you never get a bad hop. I have seen fly balls drop in front of an outfielder and bounce over their heads if they overrun it.

I'm 19 and this is my first Spring season I'm not playing baseball since I was 5...God I miss it already

The dive back into first - the base runner does seem to have metal spikes.
I have just come back from Japan after covering the MLB opening series between the Oakland A's v Seattle Mariners, which was played in the Tokyo Dome which is a plastic grass field, and they all wore metal spikes there..
