Ok, I have yet to get an answer on how to do this. I have ML installed on my 50D. Obviously, I can shoot video--and I have. However, I cannot find any information anywhere on how to have it automatically correct for exposure as lighting conditions change. A few people have said, "Oh, you have to set the XYZ setting..." or something like that. I cannot find the setting(s) people are talking about. I cannot find anything which tells it to do this.

I had one other fellow tell me the 50D always does this when shooting video with ML. However, I can assure you mine does not.

I'm quite confused and can't find the answer. Can anyone explain--like I'm a 3 year old--how to do this with a 50D?

Also, I'm guessing it won't auto-focus. Not a huge deal as I don't need a shallow DOF and can stop it down quite a bit. However, I'll run into that exposure problem again (shooting indoors walking through houses).

Anyway, I appreciate any help any of you have. However, if you can help, please explain how to do whatever you're suggesting in detail as I cannot find settings some have mentioned.

Thanks.

There is a firmware hack that allows you to do it.

Oooh, why not just sell the 50D and get a 7d or 60d?

Software called Magic Lantern gives you this ability. You can search for it and find gobs of info. Unfortunately, I can't find the details on how to do what I want/need to do. :)

I wouldn't want a 60D but wouldn't mind a 7D. Unfortunately, this isn't an option. I use my 50D too much to sell it before having another body in hand. I don't have the funds to get a new body before selling the 50D.

Besides, I plan on holding onto the 50D when I can upgrade the body (keep it for the wife or as a backup).

But I have thought about it.

I have an early release of ML dated October 27, 2011. It does what you want (most of the time ;)) and exposure compensation works as well with the rear wheel (again, most of the time). I've tried the latest version and found the same issue as you.

Hmmmm.... that sounds like the functionality is disabled intentionally. It's hard to imagine such important menu accidentally got wiped out in the latest ML build.

I will be doing video walkthroughs of homes. Each room will have different lighting conditions.

Hmm, that's a little concerning.

Thanks! This is exactly what I've been looking for. Unfortunately, as others have indicated, auto exposure doesn't seem to work in this version of the software because it defaults to auto but it's not adjusting. :(

Someone is sending me an older version of ML software. May give that a shot.
