Interesting story! I have talked with many sellers who have had problems with buyers in foreign countries denying receipt of shipped goods and tracking does not work effectively in most overseas countries if at all. There is a wise lesson there.

I will buy using Paypal and Ebay but will absolutley never ever ever never sell anything unless it's picked up and in cash. I could care less how many awesome-smooth transactions you've had that won't make me change my mind.

Thanks

How odd, I read about this almost a year ago on the Leica forums when it went missing and thought it was long gone. I hope the seller gets it back and the other guy chucked in jail.

Wow, interesting...I've done many, many cross-border transactions as both a buyer and a seller (though admittedly usually only Canada/USA, but some to Europe) and never had an issue.

All hail the power of the interwebs for helping this guy track his camera down...hopefully he can get his $$$. Also...$100 for that Leica kit would have been the deal of the millennium if someone sniped it fast enough haha.

That's right. Is a whole new misunderstanding...when you are caught with your pants down. LOL Well, the faults of Ebay and PayPal for being lax with their claim department.

Or, could the seller have used a service like UPS that would be able to track internationally? That would have shown that the seller took the steps to assure himself that the order could be tracked to the buyer's door; then the seller would have had proof to show Ebay and PayPal that the camera definitely was received.

Man that sucks, hope he at least gets the $ back, but unlikely knowing paypal :(. Then again if it gets some serious hits and they get some bad PR they might do the right thing. When I sell stuff on ebay I refuse to ship internationally, just too risky unfortunately, because Paypal will almost always side w/the buyer and you can't post negative feedback.

This is why I don't ship to anywhere but the US.

Even today, I'm damn near scared to sell anything on eBay ever again. 1) because of their ridiculous fees ran by the extortionist groups of eBay and Payal take 12% of your sale. So a $1000 item that normally sells used anywhere else, but you only get $880?? Give me a break. 2) all a buyer has to do is claim they didn't get the item - eBay always sides with the buyer and you're screwed.

My wife sells a bunch of stuff on eBay. I grumble a bit about it, but she still seems pretty carefree about it. She hasn't gotten burned yet - even shipping internationally - but I think it's just a matter of time. We have taken a couple of items back and issued refunds.

There was a post on Regretsy not too long ago where the seller sold an antique violin that had proof of authenticity from an expert. The buyer claimed it was counterfeit, and despite the seller's verifiable proof, Paypal forced the seller to issue a refund, and had the buyer DESTROY THE VIOLIN.

Id sue paypal on the mere principle of destruction of an instrument(because I am a musician)

additionally id sue paypal on the principle of destruction of property.

god why would you ever destroy an instrument? music can give people life.
