I used to sell quite a bit on Ebay, particularly around the holidays. But several years ago (5) Ebay really started to go downhill for sellers.
They have rejiggered the selling fees, started charging a 'fee' based on what YOUR shipping costs were (in an effort to get all sellers to offer free shipping), and eliminating sellers from giving poor feedback to buyers.
The last kicker was the purchase of PayPal by Ebay, and essentially stacking the deck against sellers in the event of the a fraudulent transaction.
Essentially the person that sold the camera was naive (to those that sell on ebay regularly...they would label him stupid) to sell to an international buyer. Ebay will back the buyer 100% on a 'I didn't get it claim' on international sales, as the seller found out because there isn't a good or reliable tracking method for international sale.
As for the 'investigation'...it will be whitewashed and the seller will still be out the money. Let it be a lesson to those that are considering selling on Ebay.
