Just ordered one of these. Now, the question for me is, what is the best rechargeable battery? I've been looking online and I can't seem to find any general consensus. So I figured I'd ask other Canon flash users to see what they use and like.

Thanks.

Sanyo eneloop. And a good independent charging circuit charger (Maha comes to mind).

I use Powerex NiMH AA batteries since they offer a higher power rating. The only difference between them and the Sanyo Eneloop is that the Eneloops hold their charge longer but I've never had a problem where my Powerex batteries lost their charge.

Hope you have better luck with yours than the two that I have had.

They tend to stop working....after a very short time period too....shame really.

You're going to see the brands, "eneloop" and "Powerex 2700" mentioned here more than any other, and that's because they're both "the best" in their own way. You can't go wrong either way: choose eneloop if you're after low self-discharging characteristic in a rechargeable battery; choose Powerex 2700 if you're after more flash pops. Their recycle (capacitor) time is about the same up to around 200 (depending on your flash power output setting, but Powerex 2700 can sustain a better recycle time longer.

The ONLY disadvantage that Powerex 2700 has in comparison to eneloop is that it's not a low self-discharging type. But then, if you're a neurotic photographer like me who needs to recharge all the batteries -- regardless of the battery type -- before each shooting event, then Powerex 2700 is definitely the go to battery. I do, however, use eneloop in all of my radio trigger, receivers, remote controls, digital recorder, etc., as well as an emergency back up batteries thrown inside my bags.

I have 32 eneloops atm but will be getting a good set of powerex 2700's as well to go with my eneloops when I need them. Just make sure you put some money aside for a good charger/chargers

Seems like so many know Eneloops as low self-discharge NiMH, and Powerex as non-LSD. Wierd how few people know that Imedion is the brand name low self-discharge NiMH made by Powerex

I've had two La Crosse BC-900 chargers. The first failed and was replaced under warranty. Charging eneloop batteries with the La Crosse, even at .5C (1A), they get hot and sometimes miss termination. My Maha chargers, both MH-C9000's, run cool at high charge rates and have been reliable.
