The release and the price of the mark iii, the D800 and the price possibly rising or dropping more on the mark ii was really starting to drive me crazy. On tuesday I went into fry's electronics to find that they were selling the mark ii for $1899 not including tax. The salesman said that there was only one left, I believed him because Im friends with the manger and he confirmed that there was one left. I decided to buy it because it was at a great price and they didn't think that they would get anymore in stock.

I was told that I had 14 days to return it as long as it was unopened. So my plan was to hold onto it until the mk iii hits stores on the 22nd ish... and see if prices on the mark ii would drop more.

I was starting to slip into insanity calculating every possible outcome. Then I realized that it would only make sense for me to return the mark ii and buy it online if it dropped $300. That would mean that amazon would be selling it for $1900 and in the end it would only save me $150. Also I really dont see the mark ii dropping that low ( not in the next couple of months). If it did drop that low, I would still have to return the camera at frys, wait for funds to get back into my account, pray that the sale is still going on and hope they still are in stock.

Today I decided, yes the mark iii is a great camera but it leaves me no room to buy more lenses and I don't want to bother with selling all my gear and switching to nikon. So open it already!!!!

and so the battery charging begins.... come on green light!

Under $2000 is a great price for it. Used you can get it for less... I just sold mine for $1725, shipped!

Many 5D2's will hit the market in a week or two... I have a feeling a ton will be down around $1600-1650 when the market floods.

You certainly will not regret the purchase, the 5D2 is a great camera! Enjoy.
