I got my 2nd 430exII and my third Cactus V5 trigger yesterday. Shot a few skate photos. This is SOOC. Too lazy to edit. School in da AM. C&C welcome!

Not really digging the composition. Maybe a horizontal shot would have been better, but that's just my opinion.

Shooting horizontal fisheye on a quarter pipe comes out reallllly weird.

There is something weird about the angle, but it's still good for a park shot. One thing to be weary of is many skate/snow/bmx photogs, especially young ones really rely on the fisheye for getting a composition. Lately I've found ignoring the fisheye and going for something like the 50 in your case will make a huge difference in composition, you force yourself to move around and find what looks best, not just get close and shoot. Maybe try some street spots some time too, makes for better shots generally.

Me and my friend are ALL about street skating but I just called a few friends to skate with because I wanted to try out my second flash and I know what youre talking about. I prefer my 50 or 85 way more than the fisheye but it was going to rain so I just threw the 8mm on really quickly.

Does it? My apologies! Maybe from a different angle?

It's hard to get the right angle with skateboarding because you ALWAYS want to see their front.

I personally like the shot. Does that happen to be Chatham Skate Park?

I don't mind the fisheye, but I really hate crooked horizontals, sorry to jump on the bandwagon!

On the other hand, the light on the skater is great! There's a really hard shadow across his chest which looks good here, but from a slightly different angle could be kind of ugly, so watch out for that.

If you are going to use an umbrella or soft box, get as much counter weight as you can, otherwise they will blow over. All of my flashes have fallen over because of this, and I lost an LP 160 last month because of these previous falls. Even with like 15 lbs. at the bottom of a stand, I've had them blow over. This is kind of a tangent, but these kinds of images will look even better with that soft light.
