After buying the SD card below (See link) My friend told me that it is NOT and will not be compatible with the 5DIII. I want to make sure this is absolutely correct before I return it.

According to the manual, 5d3 does not comply to UHS standard, but it can be used...

I'm somewhat confused by this as well ... I REALLY don't want to have to spend $300 for the "right" card. This is what the Manual says: "Recording Media: CF Card (Type 1, UDMA mode 7-compatible), SD Memory card, SDHC memory card, SDXC memory card." So what is the right card to take advantage of the 6-FPS continuous shooting mode?

I'd just like to buy the right card the 1st time and not discover I made a mistake after the fact.

You and me both.

I guess the card will definitely work, but it won't take advantage of the 90MB speed. Think of it this way. (I saw this comment on CR) "It's like putting a supercharged engine in your grandma's car."

Compatibility is not the issue, the newer cards will work fine in the 5DIII. The camera however (at least at present) can't take advantage of some of the hardware features of a UHS104 spec card. The performance of the card is optimized when paired with a UHS-I compatible device, which the Canon 5DIII is not. The UHS spec for instance supports 3D.

Keep in mind that the 5D Mark III boasts dual slots, one for CompactFlash and the other for SD-type cards. One way to look at things is to buy "forward"; in other words buy the current state of the art and if a firmware upgrade comes along you'll be able to fully take advantage of the technology.

Canon must have had this Camera done a LONG time ago and has been just sitting around till 5d2 sales started to slump or Nikon announced their D800. I bet they would have been willing to go until later this year if it wasn't for Nikon.

No UHS-1 or USB 3? How long have both formats been around already? The HD I purchased last year was $100 and has USB 3.0...:confused:

Great... now we can expect to get those once the next generation of cards and USB get's placed onto the D900.

Could we also get 23 megapixels! ;)

I would love to see Canon hurt really bad for profit (unlikely) because maybe then they will try competing more aggressively with features and price. I can't think if any company with as much market share as Canon who ever releases more than they have to. Profit margins are the bottom line, period.

I fail to see any reason for having a USB3 port on a camera. I am quite happy to take the media out of the camera and read it on my USB3 media card reader. Unless canon disconnects the port and the card interface from the rest of the camera, it takes power to read. Why do I want to have to drag my camera back to the computer office to process what is shot? Cards are easier to transport and store until the project is finished and archived out.

Nikon did it for a cheaper price. Regardless if you need it or not, Canon has obviously chosen to keep 5D users out of the advancement loop. Like a kid being bugged to clean his room before going out to play. He's going to do the bare minimum to appease Mom enough to get what he wants.

I guess that isn't as bad as Nikon keeping live view simulation out of everything but their pro models.:lol::lol: A cheapo rebel has that! Also funny how most snobby pro guys used to think live view sim was a feature for loser amateurs.
