Having done this:-

... how do you instruct the camera what (moving) object is to be kept in focus? Assuming quite a few options are in the field of view.

There are three parameters you can set to tell it how to track. There are six sets (use cases) you can adjust and select one case as the active one.

The three params are tracking sensitivity, accel/decel tracking, and AF pt auto switching.

I haven't played with them much but reviews/previews have covered it fairly well.

I did set tracking sensitivity to minus (lowest), AF pt auto switching to 2 (highest), focused on something, then moved the camera around, and it stayed with the initial target and switched AF points until the object was no longer covered by an AF point.

Wouldn't you want tracking sensitivity higher ? I haven't toyed with the settings all that much

Wow. This is sounding very cool:D

If you shoot video, this is a really interesting review to watch. Talks about Aliasing & Moire issues in video (which are gone with the 5D III) but the video looked muddy. But using Sharpening Filter & Grading in Premiere, the video pops big time. When doing the same in Mark II, it goes to crap. Talks about a lot of other issues with shooting video.

I received my camera today, and did some shooting and testing.

1. Love the new shutter, it was one if the issues I had with the 5DII. The change is just perfect.

2. AF into low light and low contrasting areas is more successful than before. I see a huge improvement in the lack of hunting in a lot of the areas I would have had to recompose (hate doing that), or manual focusing.

3. I am still reading the manual and changing settings. I will go outside and shoot/test for the next couple of days.

The camera fits my hands a little better than before. Anyone with smaller hands may have some adjusting to go through with the larger grip.
I am already getting use to the changes in the menus as well, it is not such a big deal at all. The only button I am not sure if I will use is the Rating Button, maybe I can reassign it.

just a few of my thoughts...
Pierre

Works. This guy made a lengthy video on using 5D2 for filming.
There is another video reviewer, however, who really rips on the 5D3's video. He sounds really knowledgeable and convincing, although I can't really judge as I don't know much about the topic. He says the 1080P is not the real deal, and is inferior to the m4/3 GH2's 720 vid.

So, the point of the test was to see if it would switch AF points without switching to a different target. Tracking sensitivity is for whether it switches targets or not, so I set it to its lowest setting. I moved the camera around and put closer objects into the frame, and it stayed with the original target. I did not try to obstruct the original target, as it'll eventually switch, just slower than at a higher sensitivity, as I understand it.

not sure if this has been covered, but does anyone know if there is a way to have the HDR facility setup to a creative mode button C1-3... I'd like to have the HDR configured the way I like it and just register it to C1, but the custom settings are greyed when I have HDR active???

Picked up mine today and well, wow. Having a 7D and 5Dii I didn't think the differences would be that significant but I'm happy I was wrong :) Can't wait to get outside with it some more tomorrow. Makes me wish i was able to pick it up earlier today.

Read the review I put up a few posts earlier than yours. He discusses that as well. GH2 is amazing for the price and is the best value for video on the market. It is superior to the 5D III in straight up video quality, but overall the 5D III is better.
