First impression is that the AF is impressive. It can acquire focues in low ligth that my 1D3 can't and my 5D2 couldn't.

Following shots are jpegs with standard settings. I have not messed with ACR 6.7 or DNG yet.

Yes there is noise at ISO 25600. But you know what? I do not care. I like that it is even possible to get results like these in such low ligth.

I am not sure but it seems 5D3 shoots are oof.

Tried out the AF's sports capability in difficult conditions.
Took it to the local ice hockey training hall where the light is bad and shot while my som and his team trained. Worked wery well indeed at ISO 3200, bad light and fast moving subjects.

Finished by asking my son to skate att full speed towards me (he's fast) and shot a series of 10 pics, all in focus. Showing the last 8 here as there is a limit.

BTW, I did get 6 fps

Will be intrested in seeing some motorsport shots from the 5D MKIII and some comparison from people that own the 5D MKIII along with either a 7D or 1DMKIV on A/F performance.

Nick any more photos? Used it at a wedding yet?

Yeah, there are some nice shots in that link, and a good write-up as well. The 5D3 seems to be getting a lot of praise so far!

Got mine yesterday but haven't really had a chance to put it through too much testing. Here's one from last night just screwing around. Not the best to show of the capabilities but still a 5D3 image.

In the Spencer Boerup review, he claims that the 5D3's ISO 6400 is better than ISO 800 on the Mark II

But on DP Review's RAW file testing in a controlled studio, the 5D Mark III actually looks WORSE than the 5D Mark II

I shall just add-on to what others have mentioned about their likes about 5D3 even though I had openly said that I won't buy it...until I tried it. For those who are not convinced or thinking of buying it, try to find the likes from us and do a comparison studies between your existing body and these:

1. Use of 2 cards. I'm using a 5D2 and I only have a mini SD card for my voice recorder. With a SD adaptor I'm surprised it actually works! I know there are dedicated support for Eye-fi in the camera which save me the cost of getting a wireless file transmitter.

2. More ergonomic grip and button placement. I'm not sure whether did my 5D2 got more seasoned but the 5D3 have a more sticky grip. I don't use a camera strap 99% of the time so a good grip definitely helps! The buttons are also placed at a more logical position even though I still don't find the "rate" button helpful.

3. The shutter sound is so much nicer! (it means a lot to me)

4. The viewfinder flashes when in focus, very handy in low light focusing which I cannot see clearly in the dark. I'm not sure is this new but I don't remember I saw it in 5D2.

5. Improved fps. I don't really think I need more than 6...a 1Dx will be nice but for twice the price? Pass!

6. AF and tracking...insanely accurate out of the box. You have to try to believe. I'm not sure how good the rest is coz I don't usually track subjects but when I have to, 5D2 can pissed me off for a while. Having said that, i just happened to practice enough to master the technique of using 5D2 with fast moving subjects...

7. GPS! I'm on the verge of changing system because my state of the art DSLR system don't support GPS and I have to actually hack it to get it done! My iphone does a better job than it! 5D3 address it.

8. Able to use the new wireless flashes. Haven't explore it yet, the 600EX-RT just came this morning so it could save a lot of $$$ from buying pocket wizards.

9. Uses the same batteries as 5D2 which means I don't have to bring extra accessories for the backup body.

I think the problems are surrounding a bug in Canon's DDP raw converter software. Sone settings produce very soft output files. I'm getting consistently sharp images from my 5DIII Raw files via ACR 6.7.

I'm seeing around a 2 stop iso advantage over the 5DII with high iso raws. Iso 12800 is a particularly nice sweet spot, with a simular output to iso 3200 from my 5DII. Practically no banding or colour iso artifacts. The Iso noise looks better too.

I'll certainly report back although some of the sports actions shots are far more telling with regards to the AF system. In other words, it looks very encouraging so far!

All I can take are B.S. photos around the house, you know, with the baby and stuff.
