In the Spencer Boerup review, he claims that the 5D3's ISO 6400 is better than ISO 800 on the Mark II

But on DP Review's RAW file testing in a controlled studio, the 5D Mark III actually looks WORSE than the 5D Mark II

Who to believe?

Neither.

There's about a 1/2 stop difference in ISO noise, perhaps more at ISO25600 because the 5D2 really breaks down at ISO25600. I wouldn't use 25600 on either cameras for what I shoot anyways, however in an absolutely emergency, I would actually use ISO25600 on the 5D3. I would never think about using it on the 5D2 however, so I suppose that's a real improvement. (?)

As for IQ, I haven't noticed anything glaring between the 5D2 and 5D3.

IMHO, the real star of the 5D3 is the AF system.

Me too Nick....and I'm done with ducks and swans....bored of shooting those!

Gareth, certainly looking forward to what you can do with the 5D3 at weddings! :)

It really is quite remarkable how Nikon and Canon have swapped places. In the past you went to the 5D2 for high resolution, but if rapid action was involved the AF on that camera couldn't hack it and the D700 took over, with its historical resolution (that I still use!).

Now the positions are completely reversed. I don't know how good the AF on the D800 is, but it seems outstanding on the 5D3 so that may well become the "go to" camera for sports journalism.

Thank God. I'm getting mine on Saturday (hopefully) and didn't want to have to bother with a workaround...

Anybody put the Eye-fi card in yet? I just got my Eye-fi pro card last night and gave it a try. I was worried based on what I read online about how tricky it would be to get networked. They seemed to work out the kinks by now because I had my computer/iphone/ipad all working pretty quick by just following the setup directions.

The 5D really brings this card to life I think. I was able to send an ipad resolution jpeg (S2) to the card, and a full raw to my normal CF card. The complaints I had read online with this card is the slow transfer speed, but by sending it a very low res file it was faster than when I tether my camera with a wire to Lightroom. This solves a huge need for me when shooting in the studio, I want to see what I am shooting at a relatively large size, plus I want the model, stylist, makeup artist to see results in real time as well. Looks like it will be perfect with my Ipad for this. No wires, computers, just my camera shooting images through wireless to my Ipad and they display full size in real time. Finally a photography use for my Ipad haha!

I have not tried my Eye-Fi Pro card yet. Currently updating the firmware in the card.

Anyone having any issues with LIveView zoomed, manual focusing? There's some threads popping up in various places, claiming issues with poor MF capabilities, when zoomed in, in LiveView on both the 5D3 and the D800.

LiveView focusing is a critical item for me, so I'm curious if this is truly a problem or not?

Have not read that thread so don't know what the issue reported is. I have actually just tried manual zoom with live view I didn't notice any problems. (am going to shoot some iso test shots later this evening when its darker, on tripod and remote release with a spyder lenscal target).
