I can't believe you shoot mostly .jpg's! I'm looking for a reason to move away from shooting only "RAW" and your pics give me hope.

Yeah, RAW is more of a hassle than it's worth, most of the time. There are unique situations where it might be useful but 95% of the time I'm in JPEG. A lot of my work is on a deadline, so that is also a factor. I don't have time to mess with a bunch of RAW files.

That is one fantastic shot!

Thanks. I forgot to mention that the image is a 7 exposure bracketed hdr.

Did some shooting at ISO 12,800 at the Pittsburgh Aviary this weekend and I was extremely impressed with the performance at that ISO. In the process of editing the set now, but here is one with a crop at 100%.

Loving the high ISO performance! Was shooting mostly at 6400 the entire time... AF was deadly, to say the least. I kept raving to my girlfriend how awesome the performance was compared to the 5D2. Using any AF point I want and nailing focus quickly and accurately. I do much less focus checking then ever because my confidence in the camera is growing. I don't have to wonder if I got the shot in focus because I just know it has :D

But scanning through these files I am just blown away. I am getting feather detail I never have gotten before. Not saying this is due to the camera sensor or anything, but how accurate the AF is now. Especially when shooting birds only a few feet away near MFD of the lens (70-200 II + 1.4x TC). I love this camera more and more after each "real" outing with it.

Another at ISO 6400... No unsharp mask or any third party NR software. Just LR4 with my standard sharpening and NR settings (same for ISO 6400 as it is for ISO 100)... NR is minimal at 12 luminance and 15 color. Sharpening at 45, my default.

I upgraded from a T3i so things seem quite different on this cam.

1. When I had the t3i, I'd be able to click the 'q' button(in manual mode) and the menu would pop it. I could then go through the menu items and change and select, then change each individual one. When I click 'q' on this 5d3, the menu pops up, but only allows me to select the "Auto Lighting Optimizer", "card record location", and "record quality". But by clicking the info button theres more settings displayed on the screen, I just cant change them with the joystick. Is there anyway to be able to allow me to select the other options and chamge them(ie AWB, Picture style, AF) Mind you, this is when shooting in live view mode... (I hope my question isn't hard to understand. )

2. On the T3i, video mode had its seperate location on the mode dial. So when I wanted to record video, I'd change the mode dial to video and all of my previously used settings were there. Well here, I would go video mode in manual, but when doing so, it would still have my picture settings. Anyway to set it up so that in manual mode while on pictures it has one set of settings, but when I flip the switch to video, my video settings come into play, or must I change the settings everytime I switch modes?

PS. Im currently still reading the manual. This is the first manual I've ever actually read in my life lol.

I believe if you push the joystick IN, it should allow you to toggle through the different options.
