Thanks KCY. Got it. It was so simple, feels like DOH!

if you just press the Q button it brings up the quick change menu. Somewhere on the right there's an icon that's a shortcut to re-assign all the buttons that have the option. I can NEVER remember where it's buried in the menus so I use the Q shortcut personally. ;)

But....using the DOF button for switching to AI servo...only works while the button is pushed in. You have to hold it in to keep the AI servo, so it's only half helpfull!

I would have disagreed last week, but I shot my first wedding with my 5D3 this weekend and switch back and forth a lot. Combine the DOF as focus type switch with rear buttons to focus and it's a hand workout for sure. :o

Is this camera any good for fast moving action?

Invertalon wrote in post #14315688 (external link)
Very good... It has the flagship 1Dx AF system in it. At the time, it is probably the best AF system Canon has ever put into a camera. So that should answer the question :D

I have used servo with outer AF points and it nailed nearly every shot. It is really, really good.

I'd love to see some examples, I've looked through some of the pages on this thread but haven't seen any movement shots. I'm wondering how it compares to the 7D in this respect.

Curious about the AF mode you used for these pictures. Was it one shot/servo??

thanks elrey, what I'm after is knowing if it could capture focus on something coming towards it at speed, I took these with my 7D, they're little dogs only around 15ks, so a small target coming towards you at close to 60kph, and the 7D can latch on and fire off quite a few while maintaing focus. I realise the 5D cant fire off as many fps but would it be able to focus quickly enough to get some?

Before I got this camera, I thought that my 100-400 was soft. Not any more...

I am probably using a slower shutter speed than you would, but I was happy with the results from my first try with it at the racetrack.

I posted a few early unedited and will post more soon when I get through editing them.

WOW these are fantastic! Like you, I want to shoot pictures of my Italian Greyhound at full speed. She's only 4kg and significantly smaller than a Whippet. So I'm keen to hear from those that have owned a 7D and also shot with the new 5D3. I don't want to buy a 7D only to regret the decision a few months later and likewise, don't want to lay down the $ for the 5D3 only to find out the 7D would also be suitable.
