I desperately need a wide angle lens. Thinking about the 16-35mm. But the damn thing is so expensive. To pay off the 5D III before the financing kicks in, I might have to sell the 70-200 and then buy it back.

Just get the 17-40. I have a 16-35 mk2 and used to have the 17-40. There is nothing in it really except the extra stop. You get that stop back with the improvements on the 5D mk3.
