Thanks. It depends on where they make you shoot from. For this particular show we got to shoot from the pit right in front of the stage, so I had a 17-40 and 70-200. This particular shot is with the 17-40. Then there are other shows where they make you shoot from the soundboard, which sucks, because then you need a 300 or 400.]

Do you happen to also have the 16-35 and/or 24-70? I'm torn between those 3 lenses (16-35, 17-40, 24-70). If so, which do you prefer for your event work?

it may just be a mind game, but it seems that the 5D3 shoots a little under exposed often?

anyone else seeing results like this?

every photo i have taken and processed through LR4, i have most def had to bump the exposure up by +1EV almost...

just curious, like i said it could be just a loose nut behind the steering wheel...

but coming from a 5D2, i don't recall having to process the files in the manner...

thanks!

i have the 16-35 and 24-70 and they really have different applications...depends on the stage height and size, to be honest.

Once you throw the 24-70 in the mix, you're kind of talking apples and oranges. With the ISO ability of the 5D Mark III, I'm perfectly happy with the 17-40. The case could be made that it is sharper at the wide end than the 16-35. You also are less prone to lens flare with the 17-40. It's also half the price of the 16-35. Now, if the light is really bad, I will simply use a 35 1.4, but that's a whole other conversation.

Anyone have a gripped 5D III that fits decent in a messenger bag? I just got the large Tenba and it does buldge out a bit. I'm not so concerned about the length and height (have a ipad and a small thin IBM ThinkPad). I am now wondering if I should of gotten the small. The width dimensions are actually wider than the large bag. 5x5 vs 8.5. The only thing i'd lose getting the small is the length by an inch and the height by an inch. (I do need the bag to fit a 100L, 70-200 IS MK II, and really a 580EX II.

Peace,

Christian

i don't think the 5D3 is all that much different dimensionally from the 5D or 5D2...i use a timbuk2 messenger bag for carting all my stuff, and routinely squeezed in two gripped bodies and 3-5 lenses. i could put in a flash in a pinch too.

i have 17-40 and 24-70

i am absolutely happy with both lenses

i didn't have the budget for a 16-35 and also I borrowed it from a colleague and was disappointed about strong distortion at 16mm
it is way less noticeable on the 17-40

and finally, it's half the price of the 16-35

I have the large Tenba messenger and I've found the best way is to have the 70-200 attached to the camera, that way it bulges a bit less and the body is up a bit higher and out of the way of the lenses on either side of it.

Great call. I was trying to raise the inserts to do this, but they obviously aren't sturdy enough.

I think I'm gonna keep bag.

Thanks,

Christian

Yeah, I've had the bag for about a year and a half and I use it just about every day and it's held up extremely well. No rips, no zipper screw ups, no problems really. Definitely worth the investment. I also like that it fits a 17" MBP, which is really why I got it in the first place. It's also a nice bag if you just need a bag since you can take out the inside piece and I've used it for school, etc.
