Without reading the whole thread - can anyone give me an idea of it copes with sports indoors.

I mentioned this on a UK based forum and someone said that they had heard it hunts in bad light.

I've had mine lock in almost complete darkness..just the light from an alarm clock in a bedroom. This camera loves to focus and does it very, very well.

I wonder how many here sold 5DM2+7D for 5DM3. I have both 5DM2 and 7D, and trying to decide if consolidation would make sense for me. My Canon lenses are listed in my signature.

No man, you can have it set up just like the mk2 where you simply use the back button for focus and have it it in servo, one shot, with continuous shoot or single. Daniel, you are going to love this thing. It is such a joy to work with. It really is fun! There is an endlis list of little things that make it great.

You'd have to ditch the 18-135 and the 17-55 and pick up a lens in the focal range 24-70/105. I didnt have the 7d, but I had the 60D and the 5d2. the 5d3 images, in my experience, are on par if not a hair better than the 5d2. it is the AF, and ISO where I am seeing the difference between the 5d2 and 3. If you find yourself using the 7d for some situation where you dont need the FF or the AF, and vice versa for the 5d2...you may not need to get the 5d3. I did because I wanted the ability to do both in one body.

Yes, I don't really shoot weddings etc, I am a hobbyist, so I really don't need 2 bodies, since I also have Sony NEX5n which is excellent as a second camera. On the other hand, I want to be sure to be seeing a real benefit or an upgrade.

If you don't need a back-up/2nd camera body and you don't require the "reach" of the 7D... then yes, it would make sense to you.

I traded in my 5D and 5D2 on the 5D3, kept the 7D. I find the 7D has more kinship to the 5D3 than the other two, and the 5D3 really makes the 5D and 5D2 feel like history. The 7D is sort of a 5D3Lite.

I've gotten a lot out of my 7D, and actually feel grateful to it, however the allure of the 5D3 is so great, I'm wondering if even the crop factor will get me back to using the 7D from time to time.

believe me, i'm in the same boat as a hobbyist as well!

it's nice having the 2 but at the same time, it would be damn nice to have the Mk3 for an all-in-one unit!
