One thing I don't like is all the menus, if you want to go to the right and skip categories (like basic, af) and go to say custom functions, you have to go over each sub menu in the main category. Like 5 menus under AF, 3 under review. I don't know if there is a way to skip over and just pick the main category. My Menu will be very critical for this camera.

I don't know if this has been answered yet as I am no where near the end of this thread yet, but pressing the Q will jump from one section to another.

I wanted to get a true representation of how the camera performed in various standard conditions to check if the camera is actually working properly and how it stacks up to my gone but never forgotten MKII. As like some of you, I was pretty disappointed with the images from earlier in this thread. As many people seem to blog about discuss, I was too hyper concerned with the softness of some of the SOOC photos.

I took over 200 shots over the last day and here's a few that represent the range. These were shot with various ISO but at very high shutter speeds to ensure camera shake is reduced to an absolute minimum. They are also pretty run of the mill, but I was more concerned with finding various lighting conditions and textures to test.

What do you guys think? Does this look like acceptable sharpness? I'm focusing on sharpness as that is something you can't really fix much in post. Color rendition is easy. After comparing photos and reading back my notes, I've come to the tentative conclusion that the older MKII produces slightly sharper photos out of the camera. It requires less post-processing. I can see how people are saying the image is a bit soft. Image quality wise when shooting at standard ISO, I don't believe the MKIII is a superior image. I believe even with NR turned off, Canon is definitely doing something on-chip to reduce noise which in turn gives you a slightly softer image. Both camera's are still awesome at retaining detail though so that is a good thing. And with the NR + Sensor, the MKIII does have a slight ISO advantage based on my tests.

The images from the MKIII do very well with post sharpening. I think overall images coming out of the MKIII will require slightly more work to get them to shine. Luckily, they have the latitude to support this. I'm happy with my purchase, but I do feel this camera is very evolutionary. I traded an MKII and a 7D + a bit of cash for it and with my testing I'm not 100% sure it was worth. Anyhow, hope this helps anyone. Looking forward to seeing more images from all of you. Some amazing photos on here.

These were SOOC, Picture Profile Neutral, NR and Sharpening turned off, JPEG L, Auto White Balance. I've also linked them full-size images on my server for anyone to pixel-peep.

this was certainly not a tightly controlled test, but i went to the basement to see how the focusing and noise was on high ISO.

50 f/1.4 lens
One Shot focusing
hand-held
f/1.4
25,600 ISO
1/60th

1st jpg is RAW>DNG>JPEG with no settings changed from default; 2nd had a run through Nik Dfine at the automatic settings. both were resized for web.
