the big jump from the old Rebel menu system to the Pro menu's.

For the iso, I went in and assigned the SET button on the job wheel to allow me to re-assign the iso on the fly when taking photo's. So I can press the set and then turn the top scroll wheel to re-assign the iso. So I have full control in manual of the shutter, aperture, and iso. This is a big improvement for me over the 50D that I had.

Out of curiosity, how do you find the learning curve going from your T2i?? The layout of all the controls is totally different with this camera. There is quite a bit to get use to, but I feel like they have put more thought into it. I have my weekend cut out for me to go though the manual to figure out how to get the most out of my new AF.

I'm finding it not too bad actually. I've had the camera a couple of days now and I read the manual to sleep every night :p but Im more of a hands-on learner than reading the solutions, so I typically go through each menu over and over memorizing the options and trying them to see what happens :) There are still a lot of settings that I have no clue about yet, but I am learning as I go. So far I'm in love with it :D just waiting for a nicer day to be able to finally shoot it at 100 ISO - I want to see how great the quality can be

 haha the sheer difference in weight between the two is staggering, though. But I got used to it in a few minutes (until I mounted my 85 f/1.2) - and now when I pick up my T2i for comparison, it feels so light its like its hollow :P I like the grip and weight of the 5D III, it feels just...better. Stronger.

Awesome J! Second person I've seen post bluebonnet photos. I really hope I can get my hands on one of these cameras before all the flowers are gone here in SA.

Thanks! If it stays cool and an occasional shower, they should last a bit longer than usual.

Do you need the manual? I loved the simplicity of the 5Dc, and when I got the 5d2 I just went through the menus and turned off everything I could find and did all my processing on the computer (I only shoot Raw, 99% in Aperture Priority). Worked great for me. MA and stuff like that I figured out for myself because I found the manual infuriating. is this a camera where you actually need to read how to do stuff? Does the manual still seem like it was written by aliens using a dictionary?

Haha I don't so much read the manual as eye it blearily while I fall to sleep. I doubt Im actually taking anything in.

And hey, Im coming from a T2i here so its a bit of a jump. If you already have a Mark II then I think you will have no problems finding your way around the Mark III, no manual needed :D

How are you guys liking the reliability of the out focus points in low light? While away last week I had to do a lot of center point re compose method alot when shooting at night or in dark restaurants.

I just waded through pages and pages of banter about soft images and blurry and ISO etc etc. Does anyone know how to use a camera in here??? I assure you, it's probably not the fault of the camera or the lens.

I think the problem lies with DPP that shipped w/ the camera. Seems like it puts a blur mask over any image you process.

It's one of the pitfalls of being an early adopter, you're essentially a beta tester for Canon and take the chance that either something is wrong w/ the hardware and/or software. Eventually it'll all get worked out, but early adopting means you need to take the lumps and bruises that comes with it.

If so, Imaginize, then you probably saw that the problem was the DPP software canon provides for Raw conversion. I don't think you can blame people for trusting Canon's own software...
EDIT: Whoops, someone got in ahead of me while I was typing this point :)

Looks plenty sharp to me!

I've been very happy with the shoots I've taken. This camera excels over the 7D in every way that I use it (landscape).
