Amazing shots folks.
The IQ has to be better than the 5d2.
The focus looks amazing.
But the clarity and pop is simply stunning.

Neil found this over at naturescapes: 5DM3 works at f/8...sort of... (external link)

Somewhere I could have swore I read that Canon was working on a firmware update for the new 1Dx that is going to allow the AF to function at f/8. So maybe the 5D Mark III also ... :-|

Thanks, I can't see Canon making the 5D do it official though.

shooting my first sunrise tomorrow with it, excited for that... I do have a question though, how do you setup the AF so it'll track something across a frame, and pass the AF from one sensor to another as it goes? IE start on the left side and end in the right? I tried a bunch of the different situations and tried to even tweak them bumping the last adjustment to the right, but I never saw the AF point in use shift. I'm SURE it's something I'm not doing, but I have no idea what. I'll be consulting the manual but I'd love some help if anyone here knows. Thanks!

Also, burst wise, JPEGs it's pretty unlimited. I never hit a buffer 56 images in @ 6fps. I haven't tested RAWs yet where I've counted... I'll get into that more maybe tomorrow.

to get af to behave the way you describe you will need to be in all points auto af. Then, use the multicontroller to move the acquisition af point from center all the way to the left. Place that left most af point over your target and then move your camera and you should see it track. One way to test this is by using a battery on a solid color carpet or surface.

I just photographed the Hong Kong Rugby 7's this weekend and was trying out the 5D3 alongside my 1D3. I love the autofocus. This is with a 70-200 2.8 with a 1.4x extender and cropped slightly. Jpeg and tweaked a bit

Amazing!
Great camera, great photographer working together. No bigger proof needed that the focus and speed issues are all taken care of in mark III.

Looking fantastic, everyone!

Is there a huge waiting list to receive this camera?

Is adobe going to have an update any time soon?

Availability has been much better than expected.
I was not even expecting the Mark III in India till June (so didn't plan for it :)), but it is already selling freely at authorized online retailers. In fact, at abetter discount (external link) on the listed price than even mark II! The prices for Mark II haven't dropped a bit in India.
I believe that Canon would not release the stock in India unless they had enough stock globally.

Adobe is bound to support Mark III, it is a matter of weeks. No one knows how many ;)

Am I the only one who is seeing a 5d Classic look to these files out of the 5d3?

mtimber, I hope you are right! I sold my classic for the 2, and while I got lots of good pictures, I felt like some bit of magic wasn't there--just like when I sold my 135 for the 70-200 II.
However, most of these pictures are with reeeeaaalllly high quality glass (not many shooting with $3400 bodies are shooting with low end glass). I'm not sure if that isn't the difference you are seeing.

Well here in Copenhagen, Denmark there are some long lists. At one of the biggest retailers I am # 140 on the waiting list and I pre-ordered the same day 5D3 was announced so I can only imagine how many is on the wating list now. But the good thing is that in their first shipment they got 70 cameras so hopefully the next shipment will include mine. With this kind of numbers in a small country like Denmark I can only imagine how many is waiting in bigger countries.

I definitely am seeing a different look. It's hard to describe it maybe something like a painting or post processed . Even when focused properly it seems to lack detail Just my opinion.

There were some examples with a nifty fifty that also held this image quality. :-)

I don't think that is what I am seeing.

The detail is there, but the fine grain of the 5d2, which was not present in the 5dc, seems to be missing from the images.

I think the images are very pleasing to the eye.

^^This is a good example of that 5d classic look.

Nice and smooth and creamy, whilst retaining the detail.
