So I read in a bird book that the average backyard in the US has 30 different species of birds that frequent it. So I'm going to give it a shot and see if I can find those 30 birds.

I don't know much about birds so this is just a guess from looking online at sparrow images. Is this an American Tree Sparrow?

An excellent idea Chris, I think everybody should do this :) Very nice shot. I don't think this is an america tree sparrow, looks like a botteri's to me but i suck at ID'ng sparrows. Maybe the experts can chime in :)

... does it really matter?i see with my eyes, i shoot with my fingers.

Hmmm, CHALLENGE ACCEPTED!!

I like the shot by the way, it is very well exposed and there nice detail in the feathers and very sharp.

Interesting, I'll have to count up and see how many I have so far for 2012. I don't think I've hit 30 yet this year. I've been keeping track of our running total of backyard species for the last several years.
BTW, Your bird is a female House Sparrow and a great shot too. :)

I'm glad Brad came along because I would've been lost on the Sparrow ID, but it's a nice capture Chris.
I've reached 34 official species from my backyard in just a little over a year. I could actually add 3 to that if you count sucky images, but I'm being pretty picky. Good Luck on your quest Chris, it's a lot of fun!
