Boosts the likelihood I'll get one to replace the SX230 . . .

After owning mine for 2 months now I have no regrets. I carry it with me all the time which I certainly can't my DSLR. It has most of the expected features of a DSLR, which for us camera nuts makes it so fun.

I love mine, you just have to learn what it can and can't do vs a DSLR. For its size it is incredible. We are debating taking our kids to Disney next summer and I am already pondering what gear I will be taking.

Had mine for a few weeks. I think it's fantastic. I have a lot to learn.
Still not sure if I have the courage to take it alone on a trip and leaving the chubby SLR at home.
I'd like to think I can get to that stage for at least some trips

You won't regret it!!

I absolutely love mine...I was riding my motorbike around yesterday and it was awesome having the S100 in the jacket pocket...the G1X, my old G9 or my current 5D/16-35L II all simply would not have fit in the jacket, and would have left me to take nothing but my ancient 1.3 MP cellphone with me...the S100 slipped in without any troubles...thanks to it I got a bunch of cool pics I would have otherwise missed:

I'm not saying this because I have an S100, but it's the best compact camera I've seen/handled...

Had it since the day of release in my neck of the woods. I've owned about 6-7 point and shoots and it is hands down the best I've ever used.

I wonder how it's like going from a 5DII to an s100...

Totally different...I have a 5Dc and just sold my 1D Mark III.

The S100, obviously, is far behind in IQ...but, it's also a laughably small camera by comparison.

If space/weight is not an option, I'll take my 5Dc (or my 1D3, when I had it) every single time. BUT...if I don't feel like lugging a big camera or CAN'T (like when I'm riding), then the S100 is an admirable little camera to take along. But...buy a spare battery ;)

I guess size matters...

Sure does...but so far, the S100 is the best compromise I've ever found (after owning SD-series, G-series, A-series, etc compacts).

Wow, is it me or are those full size examples in that review a tad soft? My old panasonic TZ5 performs a LOT better.. Being 4 years old and half the sensor...

Boosts the likelihood I'll get one to replace the SX230 . . .

Read your comment and went off looking at reviews. Imaging Resource is a site that I trust. I've learned a lot about camera features there, and sometimes read their review after I've owned a camera a while.

I'm currently using a Panasonic ZS10 that was their competitor for your SX230, I believe. Also have a NEX5 and a Nikon dslr system.

I truly appreciate image quality; enjoyed the fast lens on my LX5 when I had it.

Why are you contemplating changing out the SX230?

Regards,
DaveL

RAW mainly, speed and bigger but lower pixel-count sensor secondarily. The SX230 would go to my wife, replacing her SD600 and giving us common batteries and memory cards (SD600, for those who've forgotten, doesn't handle SDHC or larger cards; every other camera in our household that takes the SD form factor handles at least SDHC).

Thanks Jon.
I have carried a "travel zoom" camera for a while.
I bought aNEX5 thinking it was time to quit fooling around with little-bit-bigger sensors. My G11 had become an LX5, and I wasn't happy with that camera.
I just haven't used the NEX for every-day-carry.
So I have been lingering over reviews of 3cameras. G12, P7100 and S100.

I am tempted with an S100, provided I put a Richard Franiec grip on it. The images are so good here! Photographers are so good, they could use a pin-hole camera and get great images. :)
