I am seriously considering getting a 1DMk2 or Mk2n and wondered what lenes will work with it, sort of a list If there is one would be good.
I know my 18-55 won't work, so is there a good replacement for it that will work with the 1D series?

Any Canon EF lens will work. I'm not sure of the designations for 3rd party lenses.
The 24-105/4L IS is probably the closest equivalent to the 18-55 IS for APS-H, although it is made to a much higher quality standard and is consequently more expensive. I think there are some compatible Tamron/Sigma lenses that are around 24-xxx also.

I made the same move from 20d to 1d II and have been really happy. I didn't have any efs lenses so everything worked will. I just wished the sigma 30mm 1.4 worked. Plan on playing with the camera for a but as the user interface is different but easy once you get the hang of it.

You know sigma 30mm f1.4 works on 1.3x crop. It is one of my best lenses on my 1dmk2.:D

^^ Is that why it's for sale? :p On a serious note, how's the vignetting on APS-H?

Got 35L for my 5d/5dmk2. Wish sigms worked on FF. Vignetting not problem unless you shoot fast f4. I am using mine mostly at f1.4. Here is an indoor shot showing the vignetting.

You get similar with any fast aperture EF lens on FF camera.

Outdoor shot for comparison.

Thanks Bobby. I've been thinking about the EF 35/2 for my next lens, but now this makes me reconsider the Siggy. I want something wider than 50 for my 1D II..although it's ~50% more expensive than the Canon.

So best lens for the dollar would probably be the 17-40 then?

17-40 on the 1D2 was awesome. If you are looking for a little more savings over the 24-105, the 28-135mm IS USM is a great lens. Can't really beat it for the (used) price. I wouldn't pay for it new, but $250 for it is a great deal.

I mostly used a 17-40L and a 70-200 f/4 non-IS when I had the 1d2, then added the 85mm f/1.8 for portraits.

My imagine composition sucks. I need a heavier lens.
