Hi

I currently have a 1d3 and need a second body. What option do you think would be better.

Comments and suggestions appreciated.

I mostly shoot studio work and family portraits on Location. There are also lots of dogs in my photos as do charity work for animal charities.

Many thanks

Just my thoughts - if you don't need the 10 fps of the 1D mkIII, buy a 5D mkII now and get a 5D mkIII when the initial frenzy dies off. However, I would just wait and get a 5D mkIII
if you really think you need it.
I voted for the 1D mkIII/5D mkII combo as most bang for the buck - I have both and they can cover most anything!:)

What in 1D3 limits your photography, in other words what kind of photos/style of shooting you need the second body for?

I need a second body as my photography business is getting more serious and I need a back up. Also starting work for a client that requested a minimum of 14mp for their product shots. I know a 5D2 would be enough with my 1D3 but would it be better to get rid of my 1d3 and get the 5d2/3 combo.

Keep your 1D3. Get a 1DS3 to go with it. The batteries, chargers, and accessories are all the same and so are the controls. Thus no handling issues when switching between bodies. I have that pair and haven't found a job yet they couldn't handle. As a plus you get the 1.3 crop from the 1D3 which gives your lens collection a bit more length and versatility. Prices should be coming down on 1DS3's with all the talk presently about 1DX and 5D3 bodies. You would have two pro bodies that will last a good long time.

1ds is not an option Unfortunatly. I am moving towards getting a 5d3 and then selling my 1D3 later and picking up a 5D2 and a new lens.

look into the 5DII alot more as the focusing is dog bad, and is slow, 7D might suit urneeds alot more or even the 60D u can pick those up under 800, and its image quality is fantastic, and it has video, and the articulate screen is a big +.

I clicked "other"

I have a 5D MKII and a 7D as well as a few other cameras (which I "may" sell soon!) ... I am about to order a 2nd 5DMKII. Price has dropped a little but maybe not as much as I wish. My fear is if I don't order soon, there will be no 5DMKII's available!

From everything I've seen and read, MKIII looks GREAT but not all that much different than a MKII ... Am I missing something? ...
Digic5 processor seems to be the biggest change but for me, I really don't need anything faster.

I have a 1D3 and a 5D2 and I love the combination. I voted for that.
