Climbing Vedauwoo

I took a bike ride up to Vedauwoo, Wyoming yesturday to do some climbing and photography.

Vedauwoo is a large area of natural rock formations in southern Wyoming, between Cheyenne and Laramie on I-80. It is a haven for rock climbers and boulder hopping in the summer months. Vedauwoo means 'Land of the Earthborn Spirit' in Arapaho. These indians used to go on vision quests in the rock formations and could hear the spirits talking to them. In reality, the very strange rock formations do "whisper" to you when the wind is right. It makes for an eerie feeling when camping out in them during the night.

nice shots, really like those rocks in the 1st shot, odd formations

Thanks Rick, the whole area is covered with very odd rock formations. Balancing rocks 500 ft. in the air, very weird "loaf" rocks and many rocks with square almost "cut" edges staked together. It is a very interesting geologic area and a great place to go exploring in.

Very nice! That would be a neat place to get some night time sky shots.

Several of your shots really appeal to me. I plan to be in WY this coming summer, will try to visit this place.
