Just came across this Russian guy's gallery (external link) after seeing a link on geekologie.com (external link)

The shots are amazing. If they're real, how in the heck does he do it? The DoF, the lighting, the whole setup is awesome. If they're fake, they're still pretty cool.

Whatchya reckon? Let's talk, deconstruct the shots on how you think they're done.

There was one article that claimed that they are not posed but alive and doing all those things. I don't believe it. He's very good at macro and photoshop.

Here is a topic discussing the ants:

If I see a video of this guy in action I may believe it...

I'm no bleeding heart PETA type, but does he really have to kill ants just to take some pictures?

Maybe they died of natural causes.

Forgetting if they're dead or alive, how about the depth of field? See the shots with ants in foreground and a man in background? I know the man is slightly out of focus, but still impressive that you can make him out. I reckon if you set up similar shot anything more than a metre away is so blurred you wouldn't make it out.

Your assuming that the background is real and the guy is waving. More likely its a photo if the claim that no Photoshop was used only inches away. The old forced perspective trick movie makes have been using for a hundred years. Or... it's Photoshopped.
