And I was saying that the 100-400 and 200-400 are completely different lenses, so yet it makes sense. 1 stop is a huge difference, especially in weight/size when talking telephoto lenses.

yes they are, but given that rumors of a MK2 100-400 have been around literally for years, I wouldn't hold my breath for one. and then I see the 200-400 pop up my personal guess was no more 100-400. But Canon I am not, so who knows for sure what they will do. Then again if it is around the $11K asking price that has been bandied around, I certainly won't be buying one!!

Multi: Is 200 mm going to give you enough reach for your wildlife shots?
Is the kiwi dollar in the crapper? the non IS 2.8 can be had new from HK for A$1200 aussie. and the F4 IS for A$1120 Not sure what that translates to in kiwi money however.

200mm wont give me much reach but wild life is all a but sparse here anyway, birds, cows and sheep, thats about it, I might be better off moving genere, to people, they afterall pay for photos ;)

The NZD is a bit **** compared to the AUD, have you purchaced from HK? do you know any good websites?

I usually get my gear from DWI.com nowdays. Bought from them so far 135L, 24-105L, 580EX2, sigma 8-16 and a 7D, all in seperate orders over the last year and always been no fuss. I usually use priority postage which is about 20 bucks for 4 days freight via fedex with insurance. Last lens was 3 days from click to buy....to open box, and I am not in a capital city. I have had no hassles from them at all but to be totally honest have not had any issues with any stuff I have bought so can't comment on how they go with warranty or other problems, but as far as speedy delivery goes it's all good, and packing is superb. Normally double bubble wrapped with a mass of tape. All my boxes thankfully have arrived without a scratch.

I have literally saved just over $1700 dollars buying from them over retail local store prices. I try to buy local, but that's big savings in any mans language. That is nearly a new 70-200 MK2 right there.

That, and it'll be a good deal bigger, and it'll have a 1.4x built into it... and the price will be 4x-5x more than the 100-400L mk2... The rumors indicate that the aperture will change a bit, so it won't really be a mk2...

Is 5.6 that slow in NZ ?
I always though you guys had plenty of the golden sunshine over there .

Have family there , they always invite me over , but the wildlife scares the proverbial out of me .
As Terry Pratchet hinted "they have no snakes there , the spiders ate them all" !

The 200-400mm f4 is supposed to sell in the USA for almost $12000. I doubt if it will interfere with any 100-400 sales. A revamped 100-400mm Mk II lens would probably sell; for close to $3000 judging by the price increase on the 70-200 f 2.8 IS Mk II.

Just remember the duty tax when bringing a lens into the country.

srry, but you should have snet it in as soon as it started failing IMO. But, I also think "L" glass should have a longer warranty, especially for prodcts with known bugs
