I see Zeiss lens models like Distagon T* 15mm f/2.8

What is the asterisk/star for?

I could be wrong, but I think it might refer to the lens being coated…again, that's unconfirmed.

This link (external link) says it means that

"the lenses were treated surface to reduce internal reflections in the optical and thus improve light transmission and promote high contrast and color rendition. "
