My first pelican

My home is in Massachusetts, too cold for pelicans. Last week we took a cruise ship out of Galveston, and from the upper decks I saw this nice brown pelican wheeling about. C&C always welcomed.

In that case, I also got the pelican against a roof. This one may be too un-busy!

There you go-should have posted that one to begin with! BG works well w/ the pelican. You got excellant exposure and focus is right on. Well done, Biosci!

They are both nicely capture BioSci, but I'd agree w/Rog that the 2nd is a better fit with the background.
If you'd like a challenge, you could blur or average and high-key the background on the 2nd image and it might become even more striking. Just a thought.

Very nice shots. As for the coldness factor, we have American White Pelicans in N. MN and they breed a long ways further north in Canada.

That was why I like the first one better. The background was an old sailing ship now used as a museum on the wharf. It seemed a better fit for a seagoing bird.

They are both great but I like the 2nd shot better too.

I'm right there with you on the background. Not only does it show the environment, but it adds dimension and vitality. Varying opinions on art is what it is all about. Nice shooting.
