I recently saw this advertised for sale on Regretsy (external link) and that is not the only one, (external link) yeah far from it. (external link)

There seems to be a whole industry based on selling prints of plain "bokeh" with no object in focus, just out of focus circles.

What is your opinion of this trend to produce monumentally out of focus pictures that give you a bunch of colourful circles?

My 500px. (external link) I like action (external link) and volcanoes. (external link) Dragons (external link) and temples (external link) are fine, too!
I don't think the Earth revolves around me. It revolves around the Sun, which shines out of my ass.

In the world of commercial interior design, there seems to have been a shift in the last few years. Abstracts are now a large seller. The only analogy we can come up with is that in a bad economy, the desire is to decorate with something that is generic and can "hang" longer than traditional scenics, landscapes, oils, watercolors, classics of the masters, etc. Yes, stuff like that sells.

I think they are useful as backgrounds in images, but as images themselves, . . .well. . . .
For instance, when you initially go to Pandora.com, the page is blue with light blue/white OOF specular highlights. It makes for a pleasant, unobtrusive background. It looks great in portraits too. On it's own it's pretty boring.

If there's a whole industry based on it, why should our opinion matter? People produce what other people will buy.

Well, to me the question is do they sell, at least in any kind of quantity...? If they sell well, then, gosh, I need to take some photos like that!

I knew there was a reason I spent all those thousands of dollars.

I actually really enjoy abstract images. It's not something I have ever made a focused effort to do, but when the birds aren't coming in, and there's a lot of time to kill while waiting in my blind, well, then it's fun to play around with this type of thing.

Here's one I made last week while waiting for Blue Jays. It is bokeh of tree branches (American Beech) against a clear blue sky.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

Heh! Elie, now I almost regret selling off some of my stuff! But at least I have the 85L that I spent so much on...and my 5DC, so I'm still set to get some bokehlicious photos:)!
