Hi all. Was hoping some kind person could help me with these birds. What are they? I find it really difficult to tell the difference between a Pacific Swallow and a Barn Swallow? Any ideas greatly appreciated! Thank you

I'm no pro, but will take a stab at it by labeling the second a Barn Swallow. The first looks like it could be one as well, maybe juvenile, but I'm not sure. The color is what has me concerned and whether or not there is blue on the first bird's wings. If not, then I would call it a Bank Swallow.

Now, we need to hear from the folks who know what they are talking about. :)

Where were the photos taken? That would be helpful in assisting in ID. The Pacific Swallow breeds in tropical southern Asia from southern India and Sri Lanka across to south east Asia and the islands of the south Pacific. Unless it was in those areas, it is highly unlikely to be a Pacific Swallow.

Hi thanks for the responses. The photos were taken in Okinawa where we get both Pacific and Barn swallows as well as red rumped and types of martins. Thanks again
