Shot these this afternoon. I was trying to use the barn as a frame on the first two.
What are your thoughts?

Is it the B&W that makes it depressing? I wasn't going for that but I do see your point.

I LOVE the B&W shots!! I don't think they look despressing at all, I think they are very thought provoking photos.. I don't care for the color one, it just does not seem to have as much character as the B&W shots... LOVE THEM!!!! bw!

Maybe just a little tighter crop on the B&W, cut out some of the dead space to the far right and they would definitely be worth framing!!!

after some more thought I realized that what you probably meant x_tan. I agree, they look a lot better running around.

Thanks Michelle. I was trying to use the barn as a "frame" hence a lot of dead/black space.

I agree on the color one, B&Ws look better than that one. I shot it quite wider but cropped it. Oh well.
Glad you like the first two. :)

No need to 'running around'; rather just a close up shoot with the head.
This horse is a very powerful animal, as the 1st shoot of it's eye already give out its' beauty.

Try to shoot it again with lower angle, big head only. See how the photo come out.
