I've had 3 CPLs since I got into this hobby. First was a Hoya and it was great, sold it with my XSI kit (it was in your size). I think I paid around $40 on ebay. Then I grabbed a $12 Chinese special off ebay in 67mm. Well ya, it's as good as you'd expect. Used it once, did some funky things! Now I have a Marumi 77mm and it's just fantastic. Bought a step down ring today so I can use it on the 67mm.

Looks like $52 here for your 58mm.

I am most interested in its ability to knock down the glare from windows, I want to take a few pictures from inside the plane. Also my last trip to Hawaii the GF and I did a helicopter tour of the Napoli coast (amazing coastline) I took close to 500 pictures on my P.S. I think maybe 5 came out usable due to the reflection of the windows.

Well in that case I would definitely spend a little more on a good CPL then to buy a junk one just to have one.

Take Care,
Cheers, Patrick

How did you like the Hoya?

I'll admit I'm not a strong shooter, I'm kinda new at this. Regardless I had zero issues with what the Hoya did for me for the $. I played with it shooting through car windows and ponds and all that, did a great job. I had great rich sky shots with it as well. Compared to my $12 'China' that gave purple bands across the sky!

I went for the Marumi last year cause I read it was the 'go to' if you can't afford a B&W...

Best bang for the buck would probably be one of the mid range Hoyas. HMC, or super HMC.

Honestly...if I had this price range, I would opt not to use one at all. If I needed one that bad, I would pay the piper (which I have done for my B+W CIR-POL glass)

I would say this is definitely the recommended way to go about doing this!

Ok added to my wish list lol. Quick question how good are these at removing the glare/reflection from windows. Main consern qurrently is airplane and helicopter windows. I guess car windows to ( I will be driving so being able to had the camera off to someone else to click away as we drive is a bonus)

That is one of their key uses :)

How about $39 for the Hoya "moose" at http://www.ebay.com …lters&hash=item53eaebe2fb (external link). This is where I bought mine. I see someone else also has a link to the same vendor but it is the "standard" Hoya.

Truthfully, you can go really high end, spending near or even over $100. High dollars often get you very thin filters which will prevent vignetting which is darkness in the corners; essentially the camera "sees" the filter. But the mid-range filters made by reputable firms are quite good. I just happen to like what the "moose" did for me in Jackson Hole and Yellowstone and some car shows where I wanted to reduce reflections.

WELL over $100, I think my 77mm B+W CIR-POL was around $220 when I bought it last month.
